Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is a much loved classic, enjoyed by children and adults alike since it first appeared in the latter part of the 19th century. The book sees Alice enter a fantasy land after falling down a rabbit hole, where she meets an array of wonderful characters. This WMS slot is faithful to the Lewis Carroll book, featuring characters from the story including the Mad Hatter, the white rabbit and Alice herself, as well as the ‘eat me’ cake and the ‘drink me’ potion.
To design a slot based upon such a weird and wonderful story requires a game with much variety and this game certainly delivers with a huge range of features. Some of these are landed with the usual scatters while a number are also awarded randomly. Behind all of the features is a solid 5 reel slot, designed in a cartoon style which is perfectly fitting for the theme.
The biggest payouts come when you land one of the features described below, starting with those that are won on the reels, followed by the randomly awarded special features.
Mad Tea Party Free Spins Round – If Lewis Carroll were to write a slot, he would probably call the feature symbol ‘feature’ for simplicity and WMS have followed the same lead. If this symbol appears on reels 1, 3 and 5 you’ll be awarded 6 free spins. However, before every spin you’ll have to pick one of three teapots above the reels, which can add multipliers and wilds and also activate a super mad re-spin.
Super Mad Re- Spin – The ‘Alice’ logo is stacked on reel one and if it should encompass the entire reel you’ll enjoy a super mad re-spin. Once again you’ll find teapots above the reels and here you can win extra spins, additional logos or the feature may end.
Randomly Awarded Features – There are a total of five random features, each based upon a different character from the story.
Alice – She will appear above the slot and turn one of the reels completely wild.
Queen – Four playing cards will appear and you’ll choose one. All symbols of that suit will now turn wild and you’ll have the opportunity of winning as much as 250x your stake.
Caterpillar – This will give you an instant multiplier of between 2x and 15x.
Mad Hatter – You’ll pick a teacup above the reels again, this time revealing a diamond, a muffin or a white rabbit. This will reveal a multiplier of between 2x and 10x.
Cheshire Cat – This feature sees between 1 and 10 symbols turned into a wild.
Of course, you’ll also have the opportunity of winning in the normal way at the base game. The Alice logo and the Alice picture are the joint highest paying symbols at the slot, worth 500 coins for the maximum five in a row, while the Mad Hatter is worth 300 coins. These base wins are aided by the wild symbols appropriately named ‘wild’.
This is something of a standard five reel slot with three symbols on each win line, although the reels appear smaller than on many other slots, this giving the opportunity of a variety of characters to appear above the reels – Alice lounging above the reels, the Mad Hatter drinking tea and the queen of hearts walking across the reels in a particularly snooty fashion.
The slot has 30 win lines but you’ll pay an additional 20 credits for the features, making the minimum spin 50c. To set your total stake for each spin you can use either the classic panel, where you’ll select your bet per line manually or the quick bet panel, where you’ll select a box showing your total stake for each spin.
Graphically the slot is a little mixed. The animations of the characters above the reels are excellent, while the ‘picture symbols’ are all designed well, but this is in contrast to the playing card suits which look somewhat basic . The accompanying sound is perfect however, as the clicking of the reels is joined by a fairy tale style soundtrack which is very fitting for a slot with this theme.
There is something for everyone at this Alice in Wonderland themed slot. The highlights are obviously the large range of features, meaning you’ll feel like there is something extra going on at almost every spin – making it well worth the additional 20 credits you’ll pay for these features. Like the book, the game has a nice sense of humor too and won’t fail to put a smile on your face. What is the best thing about the game? You won’t have to jump down a rabbit hole to play it!
